Preparing for Emerging Refrigerants and CARB Compliance

Date: Thursday, August 4
Time: 2 p.m. EDT/11 a.m. PDT

The global phasedown of hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants has officially arrived in the U.S. As Californians adapt to the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) current refrigerant proposal, stakeholders throughout the rest of the country are bracing for federal mandates to soon impact them. With the transition to lower-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants underway, food retailers are busy evaluating emerging alternatives — such as CO2, R-290 and A2Ls — and deciding which ones will form the bases of their future refrigeration strategies.

But selecting a refrigerant has significant long-term implications, as equipment and architectural decisions can impact retail operations for one to two decades. In our next E360 Webinar, Preparing for Emerging Refrigerants and CARB Compliance, Emerson will explore the roles that emerging refrigerants play in achieving CARB compliance, preparing for federal refrigerant mandates, and meeting corporate sustainability objectives.

Attendees will learn:

  • The continued growth of CO2 transcritical booster (TCB) systems in North America
  • The expanding potential of R-290 due to charge limit increases per recent updates to safety standards
  • How the “lower flammability” A2L classification impacts system design and safety management
  • Strategies for achieving CARB compliance by evaluating total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across a retailer’s entire fleet of stores in California
